Pool and Hot Tub
Electrical Installation
If you’re adding a pool or hot tub to your home, make sure that your electrical wiring is installed properly and that it’s safe and efficient. At Amp Pro Electric, we have extensive experience with all kinds of electrical systems and can safely install new electrical systems for pools and spas. Pool and spa wiring can be a challenge with the need to have electrical suitably installed around both the exterior and interior of the pool area.
You need an electrician who understands all the rules and regulations for safety, as well as codes regarding residential pools.
Bonding
What is Bonding When it Comes to Pool and Hot Tubs?
If you’re new to pool or hot tub ownership, you may not have heard of bonding. It’s a matter of safety. Bonding is when the electrical and metallic components of your pool are wired together to form a non-resistive path between the components.
That sounds complicated, but it’s about making certain that electrical equipment, like a pool motor, can’t build up a charge over time and —eventually— release that charge through you. As we all know, water and electricity don’t mix. Without bonding, you might conduct stray current when touching a metal pool rail or the pool water.
Since 2008, the National Electrical Code (NEC) has mandated that pools shall be electrically bonded.
When you work with Amp Pro Electric, we check your pool or hot tub for proper bonding and grounding. You get the best when you call us at 412-816-1616.
Or Request Service
- Bonding keeps your pool electrically safe
- Required by National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Both Pools and Hot Tubs Must be Bonded
- Proper grounding is also critical for safety
Bonding vs. Grounding
Bonding does not replace traditional “grounding,” where excess electricity (in case of a fault) is directed away from the pool and into the ground. Bonding and grounding work together to provide the highest level of pool safety.
Bonding is not a common electrical service, and you may find that your current electrician is inexperienced with it. That’s when you call Amp Pro Electric to assure the highest level of safety when installing electrical pool motors, pool lighting, or hot tubs.
